what to expect

• Your First Appointment
When you arrive for your first appointment, you will be asked to fill out a brief health form (which you can download here, and bring with you to your first appointment). This is necessary to ensure the therapist has the proper background information for a relaxing and effective massage. You will also be able to let your therapist know of any questions or concerns you might have.
• Before a Massage
Before the massage you and the practitioner discuss your preferences for the day's session. The practitioner may also do some hands-on evaluation of your posture and muscle condition. The practitioner then leaves the massage room so that you can undress to your comfort level in privacy, and get on the padded table.
Some clients receive massage fully disrobed while others leave on their undergarments. The decision regarding the level of dress is yours, based on your level of comfort.
You relax under a sheet and blanket, laying down either on your back or prostrate with your face in a cradle. Your practitioner knocks before entering the room to make sure you are ready.
Table massage sessions usually last 60, 90 or even 120 minutes.
• During a Massage
To respect personal privacy and provide adequate warmth, you are covered at all times except for the area of your body being worked on.
Massage may include: head, neck, arms, upper/lower back, abdomen, legs and feet. Professional massage should be a safe and healing experience.
Communicate to the practitioner immediately if you experience any pain, discomfort or concerns during the massage.
• After a Massage
At the end of the massage you tend to feel very relaxed. You may even have fallen asleep. Take a few minutes to become fully alert before getting back in your car. Also make sure to drink plenty of liquids the day of and next day after massage. This will allow toxins released from muscle tissue to flush out of your body, extending the benefits of the massage.
